You can book a taxi with a child seat in Gdańsk online: with Neptun Taxi a car seat or booster costs 40 PLN per seat per ride, paid to the driver in cash or by card. Seats can be added to rides that start within the next 24 hours, and a dispatcher confirms that a car with the seat is free at your time. One car takes 1 child seat plus 1 booster, or 2 boosters.
Do children need a car seat in a Polish taxi?
Legally, no, which is exactly why you should ask for one. Article 39(3) of the Polish Road Traffic Act says a child under 150 cm must travel in a child seat or other restraint that fits their weight and height. Article 39(4) then exempts taxis: in our translation, "paragraph 3 does not apply to carrying a child by taxi" (the Act in the Polish legal database ISAP, as of September 2026). So don't assume a Polish taxi will have a seat unless you book one. Two rules in Article 45(2) still apply to taxis: a child under 150 cm without a seat may not ride in the front, and a rear-facing seat may not be fitted on a front seat with an active passenger airbag. The exemption changes what the law requires, not what happens to a child in a sudden stop, which is why we always recommend a seat.
How to book a child seat, step by step
- On our home page, enter pick-up, destination, date and time. The ride must start within 24 hours (online bookings need at least 60 minutes' notice).
- Under extras, add a child seat and choose the type: a full seat with a backrest (for younger children) or a booster cushion (for older ones).
- Set your child's age and weight. Both are required: the weight tells us which seat to put in the car. An optional note for the driver is available too.
- Two children? Add a second seat (limit per car: 1 seat + 1 booster, or 2 boosters).
- Choose to pay the driver (cash or card in the car) and send the availability request. Online payment isn't available with a child seat.
- The dispatcher checks that a car with the seat is free at your time. If it is, you get an email and the booking is confirmed straight away.

Which seat for which age?
Weight and height matter more than age. The Polish police give these rough groups (Warsaw police guide, in Polish, as of September 2026):
- Under 13 kg (up to about 18 months): infant seat, group 0+. With a baby, your own infant carrier is the surest option, and then there is no 40 PLN charge.
- 9-18 kg (about 8 months to 4 years): group I, so choose the full seat.
- 15-36 kg (about 4 to 12 years): group II, a booster or a seat with a backrest.
- 150 cm and taller: the normal seat belt is enough.
The police also advise keeping children rear-facing for as long as possible and name the middle of the back seat as the safest spot. Under 15 kg, our form suggests the full seat rather than a booster.

Family with luggage: estate car or minibus?
Two adults and two children fit in a regular car with a seat and a booster. With a pushchair and suitcases, add the Combi option (+20 PLN) for a bigger boot. Five to seven people need a minibus, which you can book online; the 8-seater is phone-only. A metered minibus costs the car fare times 1.5: Old Town → Sopot Pier is about 120 PLN by day, or about 200 PLN with a seat and a booster. The seat limit is per vehicle, minibus included.
