Gdańsk Christmas Market runs from 20 November to 23 December 2026, open daily 12:00-20:00 and until 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. A taxi drops you at the edge of the market by Targ Węglowy (the Coal Market): about 80 PLN from Sopot, a fixed 99 PLN from the airport. The night tariff applies after 22:00 and on Sundays.
Dates, opening hours and where the market is
The organiser, Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie SA, confirms these dates and hours on bozonarodzeniowy.pl: Friday 20 November to Wednesday 23 December 2026, free entry (as of September 2026).
The 2026 site map has not been published yet. In 2025 the stalls filled Targ Węglowy, the Great Armoury (Zbrojownia), Bogusławskiego, Tkacka and Kołodziejska streets and the Foregate complex (Przedbramie), with the main entrance from Targ Drzewny and Św. Ducha street (organiser's accessibility page, as of September 2026). The city counted about 1.3 million visitors in 2025 (gdansk.pl), so weekend evenings get crowded.
Staying in the Main Town or Old Town? You will most likely walk. A taxi makes sense from Sopot, Gdynia, the airport or the outer districts (see taxi Gdańsk). With a free day to spare, our routes page lists trips such as Malbork.
Where does the taxi drop you off?
Not at the stalls. In 2025 Targ Węglowy stopped being a car park on 3 November and was closed to traffic for the market, Tkacka street was closed until the end of the year and Bogusławskiego street was fully closed from Friday to Sunday (organiser's notice for residents and the city press release of 14 November 2025). The 2026 traffic plan has not been announced yet, so expect something similar.
Two easy drop-off and meeting points:
- The Upland Gate (Brama Wyżynna) on Wały Jagiellońskie. The Brama Wyżynna bus stop is about 50 m from the market entrance, according to the organiser.
- Forum Gdańsk shopping centre, Targ Sienny 7. A few minutes' walk from Targ Węglowy, and a warm place to wait for your ride.
Expect uneven cobblestones. If you travel with a pushchair or someone who walks slowly, mention it when booking.
How much is a taxi to the Christmas market?
Fares from our calculator to Targ Węglowy. "Day" means Monday to Saturday 6:00-22:00; "night" means 22:00-6:00 plus all of Sunday and public holidays. The van price is for 6 passengers.

Getting back to your hotel in the evening
The market closes at 20:00, or 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Leave right after closing on a weekday or Saturday and you still pay the day tariff. The night tariff starts at 22:00 and covers all of Sunday; during the market that means 22 and 29 November and 6, 13 and 20 December. More in our post on the night tariff.

Fares between Gdynia and the market vary a lot because the calculator takes whichever route is fastest at the time: through Sopot (about 22 km) or the ring road (about 37 km, with more of it at the higher Gdynia rate).
- Book the ride back in advance. Online bookings need at least 60 minutes' notice and show the price upfront.
- Or phone us on +48 58 511 15 55, 24 hours a day. In Gdańsk a car usually arrives in 5-10 minutes.
- Agree on a fixed spot away from the crowd, such as the Upland Gate on Wały Jagiellońskie or Forum Gdańsk, and leave a phone number with your country code so the driver can call you.
- Avoid the exact closing time, when the most people leave. A pickup 15-20 minutes earlier or later is calmer.
Groups, families and child seats
For 5 or more people book a van: 5-7 seats online, the 8-seater by phone only. On metered routes a van costs the car fare times 1.5, so six people from Sopot pay about 120 PLN by day instead of about 160 PLN for two cars. See van taxi.
A child seat or booster costs 40 PLN each, can be added to rides within the next 24 hours, is confirmed by the dispatcher and is paid to the driver. One car takes 1 child seat plus 1 booster, or 2 boosters.
