The easiest way to pay less for a taxi in Gdańsk is to pick the right time: a 10 km ride costs about 60 PLN by day and about 80 PLN at night, on Sundays and on public holidays. The rest is a fixed price at booking, the airport rule and one van instead of two cars for a group.
How much does a taxi cost in Gdańsk by day and at night?
Rides in Gdańsk use tariff 1: 3.90 PLN per km by day and 5.85 PLN per km at night, plus a 9 PLN starting fee. The night rate runs from 22:00 to 6:00 and all day on Sundays and Polish public holidays. That last part catches a lot of visitors out: a Sunday afternoon ride is billed at the night rate. The calculator rounds fares up to the next 10 PLN and adds 10 PLN to anything under 100 PLN.

Fixed price, meter or ride-hailing app?

Ride-hailing apps price by demand. When more people want a car than there are free drivers, say on a Friday night, in the rain or after a concert, the fare goes up. On a quiet afternoon an app can be cheaper than a taxi, and there's no point pretending otherwise. Our tariff changes only with the time of day, so the gap is widest exactly when the apps get expensive.
You can pay the driver in cash or by card. If you pay online when booking, the price includes the payment provider's commission. The basket shows the final amount before you pay, and the money is only taken once the ride is confirmed.
Airport taxi: when the flat fare pays off
The flat airport fare covers central Gdańsk only (Śródmieście and the Old Town): 99 PLN by day and 120 PLN at night, in both directions. Sopot has its own flat fare of 120 PLN by day and 150 PLN at night. From other Gdańsk districts the ride is priced by distance, which usually works out below 99 PLN:

Early flight home? Book the evening before rather than hunting for a taxi at 4 am. If your departure time allows, set the pickup for 6:00 or later. From the centre you then pay 99 PLN instead of 120 PLN, and from Wrzeszcz about 70 PLN instead of the 90 PLN the same ride costs at 5:50.
Five to seven people: one van, not two cars
A standard car takes four passengers. A van for 5-7 people costs about 1.5 times the car fare, which clearly beats two cars. Day / night:

Day trip to Malbork? The long-distance discount is automatic
Once a distance-priced ride goes over 300 PLN, the calculator takes 10% off by day and 15% off at night. You don't need a code, and the price on screen already includes the discount. One way from Gdańsk Główny to Malbork Castle (62.8 km) comes to about 500 PLN by day and 690 PLN at night. On routes longer than 100 km one rate applies around the clock.
